Ethereum: Mining as a Screensaver

Strongly inspired by the Seti Program, I was considering putting together a mining client that mines when a computer switches to screensaver. I know this would cost some PGU (Personal Graphics Units) when the computer takes a break from rendering images, but it’s an interesting thought experiment and could potentially be used for various purposes.

The idea is to mine cryptocurrency like ethereum while my computer remains active in the background, even when I’m not actively using it. This approach leverages the idle time on my device to generate revenue through the Mining Process, just like how the Seti Program has been doing so doing its inception over 50 years ago.

There are several benefits to this idea:

• Increased Revenue : By utilizing idle computing resources, we can generate additional income without requiring significant hardware upgrades or investments.

• Reduced Energy Consumption : Since the Computer is still running in the background, we can avoid the power drain that comes with turning off and on a device while it’s idle.

• Improved resource utilization : Mining allows us to utilize resources like CPU and GPU cores that are otherwise underilized.

Challenges and Considerations

While mining as a screensaver is an intriguing idea, there are severe challenges and considerations to keep in mind:
